Strood Academy 5-0 Robert Napier

Strood Academy went into the second half of the league season unbeaten as they entertained Robert Napier at home. From previous encounters, Strood knew this would be a tough fixture against determined opponents, and so it proved again as Napier repelled waves of attacks with stout defending before hitting Strood on the break.

After Bridges struck the post with a header and Hatchett hit the bar with a superb volley, Strood finally took the lead after Teon Wright beat 3 defenders in a surging run, and his superb cross left the Napier defender no choice but to turn into his own net. In the second half, Leonard and Marshall dictated the midfield, but Napier again defended stoutly. The game turned when thei influential Napier centre-back went off injured, leaving them with 10 men. Strood took full advantage, forcing several corners as they camped in the Napier half. After a couple of sighters, Stevie Fox scored 2 goals in quick succession, and Habas also slotted home, with another Napier own-goal resulting in a 5-0 scoreline.

Man of the Match went to Luke Bridges for his influential display in the holding role, with special mention to Marshall, Smith and Wright for their superb assists and Barker and Ward, who set up many attacks with their cultured ball playing from the back.
