August interviews for students starting new courses
For students starting courses in September, there is a second interview to make sure you are on the correct courses following confirmation of your GCSE and other L2 results on 24 August, this will be at the time below. At this stage you can identify to the school if you have changed your mind regarding your course selection. You will be asked to chose a reserve choice course in the event that some are oversubscribed, however please be assured that there is capacity for all students in courses based on decisions made at the first interview and this is purely a precautionary measure. The blocking pattern is available below: this will allow you to check which combinations of subjects are possible.

The interviews are as follows, taking place at the Carnation Road site. They are organised by surname, please come anytime during your allocated slot so that the appointments are spread out:

Tuesday 24th
10:00-11:00 A,B
11:00-12:00 C
12:00-12:30 D,E
13:00-14:00 F,G
14:00-15:00 H
15:00-15:30 J

Wednesday 25th
09:00-10:00 K,L
10:00-11:00 M,N,O
11:00-12:00 P,Q,R
12:30-13:30 S
13:30-14:30 T onwards
14:30-15:30 Spare slot

There will be available at the interview a sample of the 6th form polo shirt with order forms. This is navy blue with sky highlights and the school logo, and may be worn as a supplement or alternative to students’ own smart dress code. Feedback from current students is that they are keen on this as an alternative to wearing their own clothes. The clothing policy is available on the website, as are useful dates and information.

Continuing students
Students who are partway through Level 3 courses and wish to make any changes to their curriculum (for example, drop a subject after achieving an AS Level and pick up something new) can see Mr Hancock on 30 August between 13:00 and 16:00 to discuss the options available.

General information
At the Strood Academy 6th form we offer a wide range of courses including A levels, Level 3 BTECs and Level 3 Diplomas alongside an alternative offer of one year Level 2 courses for students still needing 5 or more good GCSEs. We have had a vibrant 6th form at the Carnation Road site as part of the North Medway Partnership and look forward to building on this success and expanding the 6th form in the coming years.

An exciting development is the 2009 – 2010 academic year being launched with our newly decorated common room. Designed by our students, it is looking very funky and will be a great place to study, read or relax.

For any queries regarding the 6th form, please contact Mr Hancock on .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or on 01634 717121 to discuss what options may be available to you.
