Consultation for moving onto a single site from September 2010

Between now and 30 January 2010 we are entering into a consultation period regarding a proposal to move onto a single site from September 2010. The report on the consultation will be published in February.
Please note the consultation now closed
The Proposal
The transition plan for the Academy was to move to a single site in 2012 in our new building. The new buildings are still due in 2012 but because of difficulties operating over two sites we are exploring the idea of bringing the date for amalgamation forward by two years. The amalgamation would result in all Academy facilities being located at the Carnation Road campus, which would mean that the Cliffe Road campus (formally the Temple Boys School) would close in September 2010.
Temporary accommodation would be provided on the Carnation Road campus which would make available an appropriate amount of teaching space for the increased student numbers. The provision of this temporary accommodation would also allow some of the spaces currently used for teaching at the Carnation Road campus to be returned to their intended use. The following spaces could be ‘freed up’:
• Common room and study facilities for senior students
• Library
• Staff meeting room
What are the benefits of moving to a single campus?
Now the Academy has been open for a term the senior leadership team better understands the impact of operating one school over two sites. We believe there would be significant educational and financial benefits from moving to a single site from September 2010.
Educational Benefits
1. Teaching staff would no longer need to move between sites. These movements have been very disruptive to teaching and also to the planning and break times of staff
2. Students would no longer need to move between sites
3. A greater diversity of curriculum could be offered to students as teaching resources would not need to be duplicated over two sites
4. A student body on a single site would further enhance the Academy’s ability to produce its personalised curriculum model
5. The 170 boys on the Cliffe Road campus could be fully integrated with their fellow students
Financial Benefits
A considerable amount of the Academy’s budget is currently being spent on transport and maintaining two sites. The potential savings achieved by a single site provision would enable us to:
• Improve pupils ICT provision
• Offer additional clubs and activities
• Provide more school trips using the ‘freed up’ mini buses
Consultation Meetings
We would also like to invite parents and carers to the following consultation meetings:
