Year 8 Energy Campaign

image

This article about energy conservation has been produced by year 8 in their citizenship lessons:

We have noticed that people leave their lights on even though they have sunlight or are not in the room. If you were to switch your lights and other electrical appliances’ off you would save loads and loads of money. They now have automatic lights that turn on if some one is in the room this would save lots of money and energy I think this would be a good idea to have in the new school building.

Daylight tubes can be used to light dark areas and very few are needed as they use mirrors to spread the light out. Leaving a 60w light bulb on for 1 hour uses the same amount of energy as 1 month worth of TV. I think we should have points to turn lights off and after you get so many points you get a reward. If every one turned of the lights as they left a classroom we would have more money to clean and remove vandalism.

We would like this campaign to work as it will save money ,time, energy and our beautiful planet as it is the only inhabitable planet and we all love it!

This project went over several lessons and this is what we have and will be doing:

On the first lesson we brain stormed Ideas and we were given a brief on what we had to do we. We were told to start a campaign to help the academy be come more eco-friendly.

Lesson 2: we started are campaign in our groups some are doing one thing each or everything together the things posters, PowerPoint’s, articles, letters, movies, leaflets & cartoons we think they are good Ideas as it has all different aspects of advertisement

Lesson 3: we will be finishing off our campaigns and hopefully putting them in action.

We are finishing our campaigns to hopefully show to other classes.

We are doing lots of different things like cartoons about things in danger because of global warming, leaflets about different types of energy, emails to members of staff asking to give up five minutes of their time so we can talk to their classes about energy saving , websites to show you how you can save energy power points about energy and facts ,posters about lights and saving energy, adverts about where to go to go to find out how to save energy and movies with facts and figures of energy.

In 8S we believe all the money we waste could be used for better thing like new paints for art classes, new chairs & aprons.

How the presentations went
26th May 2011:

Today we went to different classes 215, 300, and 222.

In 215 we talked to 10s they were kind enough to actually listen! They said they like the pink poster made by Chloe C, Chloe G M and Kirstee, they also said our presentation was very good and extremely informative.

We then went on to talk to a Year 7 Maths group, they said they like the pink poster and that the intention of the topic was clear.

Finally we went and saw 7T in 222 they said they liked the black one we were very understandable and gave us 8/10 .
