Year 13 Marketing Project

On Tuesday 31st January 2012, Year 13 embarked on a marketing PBL day.
The students spent the day creating a new product to market and advertise. At the end of the day they then pitched their product to a lovely panel of judges (Mr Moore, Miss Roots, Mrs Cox, Miss Gibson, Miss Harrison, Mrs. Antoniou and Mrs. Daniels) to see who would win the ultimate prize of £40 cinema vouchers!.
Firstly we showed them some Dragon’s Den pitches to get them in the mood and to give them a little taste of what they would have to do later! The product they chose had to fall in to one of the following categories:
1. Under 5’s
2. Healthy eating/lunch box
3. Fashion item/Make up
4. Sport equipment or activity
5. Mobile phone/electronic device
6. Environmental product
The students got in to groups and then set out by researching their chosen product and thinking about how they might go about marketing it. Students where extremely creative, coming up with some wonderful ideas. They used video cameras and microphones to help them create some adverts they could show use as part of their pitch.
Finally the time arrived and the 4 groups took to the stage to show off their product, and pitch it to the judges to get them to invest. The judges and the rest of students got in to some very heated debates and cross examined all the groups until the time had come to decide who the judges would invest with. It was a very tough decision for the judges to make. The judges had to decide between a Japanese Bento lunchbox, The Clip ‘n’ Golf bag, JelaZoo’s sweets and QuickCool’s t-shirt with removable sleeves. The overall winners of the £40 cinema tickets were JelaZoo as the judges through their idea of natural fruit sweets with collectable toys and a zoo to house them all in was a fantastic and unique idea!
Both the students and the teachers had a great day and a lot of fun was had by all! Thanks goes to all the teachers and students who participated and a special thanks to Mrs Cox and Miss Roots for organising such a great day for the year 13’s.
