Year 10 Young Dragons

On Monday 11th October fifteen students from year 10 went to a Young Dragons opening lecture.
A selection of schools across Medway including Strood Academy arrived at Dickens World in Chatham. When everyone had arrived we were seated in the theatre and told what the year would entail. We were then split into three groups, Strood Academy was in group 2.
First our group was escorted over to the Odeon, where we met two gentlemen of whom one was a banker. This is where we learnt about sales and marketing, we also learnt to set up our bank accounts. We held a discussion about sales and marketing and possible ideas of what we can do. We also brainstormed about the roles in which people could take on. We then had a break back in the theatre and were able to mingle with the competition.
Secondly we went back to the Odeon and met a man who owns a chain of businesses. In this session we learnt about creative thinking. He spoke to us about how to think creatively and told us of his own experiences.
We then went back to Dickens World and were told, for lunch we can go outside and round Dockside. We had an hour to explore the shops and eat our lunch.
We arrived back at the theatre at one in the afternoon and watched business presentations from this years winners who were last years pilot winners. One was a charity based business and the other was a business set up within the school selling school yearbooks. They were both good presentations and gave us an idea of what is expected of us.
At 2.30 we left and journeyed back to the school site, filled with lots of information which we had learnt.
