Teenage Cancer Trust Lesson
Today we had the opportunity to take part in a one hour session with Matthew Bassett from the Teenage Cancer Trust team. I think that most of us went into the session feeling rather negative, thinking it would be an upsetting and depressing topic to discuss.
However, by the end of the session our eyes had been opened. Matthew had been talking through the positive aspects of cancer, for example the therapies that people with cancer are treated with and how people can recover to live happy and healthy lives.
Everyone in the room learned more about cancer than we had known previously. Although some parts were obviously not the happiest to talk about, most of the session remained positive and we all felt comfortable participating. We were also told positive stories of real people who have had cancer and recovered. They are now making something of their futures and achieving their dreams.
We are all grateful for the opportunity to talk to Matthew and take part in this session, and we thank him very much for taking the time to visit the school.
