Strood Academy Netball News

In the first month back in the new year, Strood Academy have had a number of Netball events.

Match Reports: Strood Academy vs. Fort Pitt – 18/01/2011

Year 9

Thursday 18th January saw Year 9’s first netball fixture this term, against Fort Pitt Grammar School. The girls put on an excellent performance and remained positive throughout the match. Unfortunately Year 9 lost with a final score of 22-6 but did not go down without a fight.

The first half saw Fort Pitt initially go into the lead. Strood Academy then pulled it back and took lead by one goal with the score being 3-2. Fort Pitt then had a burst of excellent play taking a 9 goal difference with the score at half time being 11-2.

The second half saw plenty of goals! With Fort Pitt scoring another 11 and Strood Academy scoring another 4. There was some excellent shooting form Georgia Rowlatt and a great team performance from everyone. Fort Pitt were hard competitors, but were made to work hard as our girls put in a strong performance.

Well done to Hannah Burns, Molly Copeland. Chloe Higgins, Billie Chilver, Brooke Kelly, Keira Prescott, Georgia Rowlatt and Katie Warwick. Player of the match goes to Brooke Kelly.

Under 16

On Tuesday 18th January, our under 16 netball team travelled to Fort Pitt Grammar School to play their first fixture in 2011.

The game started with a shaky first half with Fort Pitt scoring 16, and Strood Academy struggling to overcome the tall defence that Fort Pitt fielded. The team did not let this phase them and they kept their heads up.

After a quick break, team talk and change of positions by a few of our girls, we were ready for the second half. The second half was much improved with the girls, responding to the half time team talk, creating a tighter defence and stronger attack.

Strood Academy were able to score a further 4 goals in the second half than they did in the first, however Fort Pitt weren't giving up and they scored a further 7, less than half of what they scored in the first part of the game. The game concluded with it being 23-5 to Fort Pitt, even though it wasn't a win for Strood Academy, the girls kept their heads up, congratulated Fort Pitt and had fun!

Netball Trip: England vs. New Zealand - 19/01/2011
On the 19th January some of the PE department took 20 students out to watch the England vs New Zealand International Netball Match.

The students were excited about attending this trip as the majority had never seen an England match before. Upon arriving at the O2 areana, we were allowed to walk around on our in groups for 20 minutes, with many students off to get food, Chloe, Molly, Katie and I went off to the rides. After a quick ride and the excitement building up for the game we made our way back to meet the rest of the group to go into the arena.

Once arriving in the arena and to our front row seats, everyone was excited and we were able to watch both England and New Zealand warm-up. The experience of being at the O2 watching the game live was immense, and we'd never been in such an atmosphere before.

The match was fast paced and extremely good. Lots of cheering and shouting came from our school whilst the match was on, and we were even on T.V. Even though England didn't win the match, everyone had a great time and it was an experience not to be forgotten.

Thanks to Mrs Mortley, Miss Harrison and Miss Deacon for giving us the opportunity to attend this netball match; we had a blast!
