Primary School Athletics
This year Indoor Primary School Athletics Competition, on March 16 and 17, was the biggest to date.
Ten primary schools and approximately 290 year 5 pupils took part over the two days.
The event was organised by the year 12 BTEC Sports Studies group as part of their course work on “organising an event”. On the day year 11, 12.13 and 14 pupils helped deliver the event as part of cross curricular course work in various subjects such as Sport, Public Services, Child Development and CCLD.
Over the two days pupils took part in activities which included; sprints, standing long jump, standing triple jump, speed bounce, javelin, sergeant jump, relays and an obstacle race.
All those that participated had a fantastic time with excellent feedback from teachers including comments, including:

The winning school on Tuesday was Gordon Road with 240 points and the runners up were Hoo Primary school with 222 points. The medals were presented by Tom Howlett Junior County High Jump Champion.
On the Wednesday Rob Tarr the wheelchair Paralympics rugby captain was Strood academy’s guest for the event and presented the medals to the teams. Year 5 pupils at Sherwin Knight were the winners with 238 points and the runners ups were Hilltop with 230 points.
This year’s competition was a closely run event with Gordon Road being the overall winners over the two days by only two points.
Gordon Road Primary School and Sherwin Knight Primary School competing in the final against the two primary schools in Gillingham which is being hosted by Strood Academy. The winning school will represent Medway in the Kent Indoor Athletics Competition.
