Outdoor Adventure Activities Day

On Wednesday 11 May 2011 the Year 13 BTEC Strood Academy Sport group took part in an Outdoor Activcities day at Rock UK as part of their course.
The day began with the class breaking up into two teams to compete in raft building: both teams needed to create a raft out of logs of wood, barrels and rope which was a challenging test but produced some good results. After completion of the rafts the groups managed to lower them into the lake and board them safely. We competed against each other in several games after which one raft capsized just beside the dock and threw that team into the water!!
We then went on to participate in kayaking which was very successful and enjoyable for all of the group except one person who spent more time in the water than in the kayak! After completing the two watersports many of the group were happy as they had overcome some personal fears as well as learning new skills.
The final activity of the day was abseiling in which some of the group relished the new challenge and others can be very proud of themselves for overcoming fears and achieving somthing they did not know was possible.
It was sad to leave as we had enjoyed the day so much, everyone was delighted with what they had achieved and would relish the chance to go again!
