Numeracy Improvement Programme

The Academy’s Numeracy Improvement Programme (NIP) is an intervention programme for students who will benefit from additional support learning key maths skills to improve their understanding.
This week Ashley has been looking at probability. He has focused on probability written in words and shown as a fraction and has investigated different examples of probability with coins, coloured counters and playing cards.Anne and Luke from year 7 have been working on division problems. They have used coloured counters to help their understanding of sharing, and they created a spider diagram of all the words related to division.
Connor in year 7 has been looking at fractions using magnetic resources to help him add fractions with the same denominators and to find equivalent fractions and understand what they look like.
Students enjoy working with different resources and games to help their understanding of maths topics. Using diagrams and making work visual, playing games and making maths fun is important to help students retain the information.
