Medway Youth Parliament Annual Youth Conference
On Tuesday 18th October a group of 8 students, selected from the Academy Council and Gifted and Talented Citizenship students, from year 9 – 11 attended the Medway Youth Parliament Annual Youth Conference.
This year’s topic was futures and throughout the day students were given the opportunity to take part in different workshops aimed to encourage discussion about, careers information and opportunities that were available to them through their schools and wider community. The day ended with a debate with a guest panel of experts from different organisations that are involved Further and Higher Education and in the careers advice.
During the debate, students were given the opportunity to put questions to the panel on the issues that they had discussed throughout the day. As a result of this we now have some agenda items for the next Academy Council Meeting.
The day was enjoyed by all who attended as Charlotte S (year 11) explained, “The conference was an excellent opportunity to find out how decisions are made and give us (students) the opportunity to express our views on the issues!”
As a result of the day 4 of our students expressed an interest to join the MYP. The Academy already has 2 students that are part of the MYP who were also there to help plan and assist the conference.
