LIP – Literacy Improvement Programme

The Academy’s Literacy Improvement Programme (LIP) is a highly tailored intervention that targets students who have a SpLD and supports them in achieving their full potential.
This week students have been working on improving their phonological skills (letter sounds), building their short- term and working memory as well as developing their organisational skills.
Tips on helping your child to improve their memory:
• Play games such as ‘Kim’s game’. Place items on a tray, after a minute of looking, cover up the items and recall as many as possible. Try grouping the items into similar topics (food, toys, clothes etc) to help aid memory.
• Linking – make up personal links (mnemonics) to remember a spelling or fact. Big Elephants Can’t Always Use Small Exits = BECAUSE
• Repetition - Complete the task over and over again to help anchor it into the memory.
