Key Stage 4 BTEC Art Trip
On the 5th February, year 9 and 10 GCSE and BTEC Art students went on a trip to the Saatchi gallery and the V&A museum in London.
This trip was arranged for us so we could see different types of Art in different eras.
The V&A exhibits mainly historical pieces of art and the Saatchi is more contemporary. We found that most people preferred the Saatchi gallery, as it was modern and more interesting to look at. The oil room by Richard Wilson had the most effect on people, it was really clever as you don’t realise that the reflection was made by oil. There was one piece of art work, where a dead camel was put into a small suitcase: this made the camel looked squashed and deformed by the small amount of room in the case.
Half way through the day we swapped over to the second museum we had to visit, the V&A. This is where we had lunch and then set off to look at the Art work. It was much more formal and the work that was presented was more detailed and sophisticated. The first room was a long room that was filled with statues and clay heads. Some of the large statues were of Greek gods. They had exhibits such as pottery, jewellery, casts of buildings and antiques.
It was a very inspirational and looking at the different types of Art from both galleries made us understand the wide range of Art today.
