Here comes the bank!

On the 24th March 2010 the Year 13 BTEC National Diploma in Business Group had to present a business proposal to Mrs Dawn Busby who is the Business Finance Manager for Barclays Bank.
The aim of the task was for students to present a business plan and financial documents to her that they had been working on as part of our unit over the last couple of months.
We have been working on Unit 37 Starting A New Business. This unit was about how you would start a new business from the beginning. The first thing we had to do was for each of us to come up with an idea for a business. We then had to look at everything that would be involved in setting up a new business. This included laws and Acts of Trading, type of ownership and market research to see if there was a niche in the market. We also had a visit from Business Link who gave advice on different aspects and also give us the thumbs up that they liked our ideas! This was all then put together as a business proposal and financial documents.
In the weeks that followed we all worked extremely hard to make sure we knew our business and that there was nothing wrong with any of the paper work. When the day came we were all really nervous of what we might be asked. We were called in one by one to see her and to our surprise she was nice and friendly and gave us some advice if we were starting our business up for real. This has been a good experience and we all now know how much work it takes to start up a business.
