Functional Skills
Year 10 took part in a Maths functional skills lesson, in which they completed a shared task of creating a golfing game containing the concept of learning about negative and positive numbers.
Functional skills are core elements of English, mathematics and ICT that provide individuals with the skills and abilities they need to operate confidently, effectively and independently in life, their communities and work. Functional Skills will also strengthen and bring consistency to learning routes for young people and adults and will replace basic and key skills over time. Not only that they can be fun too.
Here are few comments made by the students that took part:
Liam 10M
“Had fun, made a change to do a hands on topic”.
Shane 10C
“I didn’t want to join in at first as I didn’t understand negative numbers, but I think it helped me by the end of the lesson to understand them more”.
Julius 10M
“Helped me to work in a team and to understand negative and positive numbers”.
