Community Day 25 June

image

The Physical Education department put on an amazing day for local families! Rather than having an article about the event, the quotes below really do speak for themselves…

A Primary School youngster tries his best to hit a football into a hole of the challenging 'Football Shooter'. Year 4, 5 & 6 girls work hard in the 'Street Cheer' Dance Workshop ran by the Right Step Dance Company. Students visited the Dance Workshop Marquee throughout the day in order to learn routines. We arrived at 10 as they opened and didn't leave till after 3pm the and even then I could only get my boys to leave because everything was being put away!

"It gives me great pleasure to send huge congratulations and thanks to everyone involved in the fun day last Saturday. Both of my children thoroughly enjoyed the day, and just did not want to leave! They found every single activity most enjoyable, particularly the most simplest of games ie; tin can alley, ping pong balls in cups and most of all darts! It was so lovely that for once health and safety did not prevail and common sense ruled the day... most refreshing!!"

"Every teacher, helper, and pupil made the visit special for us. Particularly the children helping with the ball games up on the field, it was so hot and quite tiring, but they all pitched in encouraging my 6 year old daughter to have a go at the cricket and the rugby challenge, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The biggest thing I took away from the day was how the pupils not only had a huge interest in the school and activities, they also had a huge amount of respect and trust for the teachers."

"The staff ( both school and uni staff) and also the young people who helped were a credit to the school, enthusiastic, polite and encouraging the younger children to join in and try everything. The dance crew were brilliant and had lots of youngsters up dancing in front of the crowds .The young lad with the megaphone who walked round calling out prize winner names was brilliant and undaunted even by the heat when the temperature went up!"

"Another bonus was undoubtedly the hourly prizes- not only the i-pod shuffle for filling up cards with stamps after each activity but the highest score prizes on each sport activity, it was good to see a little bit of healthy competition when primary schools dicourage 'races' and winners / losers.. everyone had a fair chance to win a small prize- from water bottles to footballs to small outdoor games. We left with a football, 2 water bottles and 2 catch and throw games!"

"The day was very well organised with a variety of stalls and activities to try. Everything was completely free from the arts and crafts materials abundant paint , balloons, even t-shirts to decorate ,to the fun stalls and the hot food ( which was delicious!!) and I only spent around £4 on drinks!!"

"My youngest was slow to get started but once she started she didn't stop - she's 4 and her favourite activity was the mask painting with Jamal. We didn't even make it onto the field!"
