9E Bake Off For Cancer Relief

Sixteen members of 9E stayed late on 8th November to bake cakes for our year 9 chosen charity.

Everyone enjoyed working in teams to make as many cakes as possible. After they had cooled down we made them into delicious butterfly cakes (please see below for our recipe if you would like to bake your own).

Our form representative Tiffany F delivered cakes to the BAM builders who had requested 50! We can’t wait to be in the new school they are building for us. Our buns sold like ‘hot cakes’ in break and lunch times and we raised £88.37.

We would like to thank all the students, staff and builders who supported us by buying a cake and in Mr Juan’s case 20 cakes! Also a big thank you to Mrs Banyard’s daughter Lydia who made cakes at home for sale.

9E’s Double Choc Chip Butterfly Cakes.
220 g self raising flour
220g sugar
220g margarine
4 free range eggs
1 level teaspoon baking powder
1 heaped tablespoon cocoa
Half packet chocolate chips.
20-24 bun cases

Method.
Sieve the flour and cocoa in a large bowl. Add the sugar, margarine, baking powder and choc chips. Break the eggs in a jug/small bowl and check for bits of shell. Add to the other ingredients. Whisk together with an electric whisk until smooth. Spoon into the bun cases. Bake 200’c or gas 7 for 10-12 minutes until firm and springy when pressed on the top. Cool.

Butter Icing.
Add equal weights of butter (room temperature) and icing sugar and 2-3 drops of vanilla essence to a bowl and whisk with the electric whisk.
When the buns are cold (next day) cut a disk out of the top of the bun and put a large teaspoon of butter icing in the hole. Cut the disk in half and stick in the butter icing to make the wings. Eat and enjoy!
