Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
STEM creates opportunities to inspire young people in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), it broadens horizons and raises aspirations leading to increased achievement and participation in these subjects.
The Strood Academy STEM club is a fantastic project that has created opportunities to inspire young people. It has taught independent innovation and has allowed students to explore greater depths of all subjects by utilising the skills learned.
It has taken learning out of the classroom and helped students to recognise how these subjects can lead to rich and varied career pathways.
Recent activities range from working with Lush to make bath bombs to site visits of the new Strood Academy buildings and from crazy hair colour! to robot challenges. Our workshops have given students the opportunity to work with new technologies and equipment such as iPads, Apple Macs, digital cameras and the flying parrot.
